The art scene in the Greater New Bedford area is alive and well. From AHA! Nights to Gallery X this is the place where artisans and musicians tap into their imaginative minds and produce these works of talent that are the admiration of all who see and hear them. AHA! (Art, History & Architecture) is New Bedford's free Downtown Cultural Night and collaborative cultural organization with 42 downtown venue partners. On a typical AHA! Night several art exhibits open, there's live music everywhere, theater skits or a lecture takes place and interactive family and adult cultural experiences abound. This night is known as one of the best times to experience New Bedford's cultural renaissance in its historic cobblestoned downtown. Then there's Gallery X, a contemporary, cooperative art gallery of Visual, Performing and Literary artist members and volunteers. The exhibitions at Artworks! change every six to eight weeks. The Star Store is part of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's College of Visual and Performing Arts. This state-of-the-art facility is home to hundreds of artists working in a variety of disciplines. Many of the spacious, well-lit studio facilities offer stunning views of the New Bedford Historical National Park and Atlantic Ocean. The Star Store is also home to a number of impressive exhibition spaces--most notably the University Art Gallery. The annual New Bedford Open Studios gives the community the chance to see artists at work in their studios. Over 100 artists, exhibiting in 15 historic buildings including mills, a former church, and other vintage buildings throughout the city. The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra is composed of highly talented musicians who bring performances of the highest artistic caliber to the stage. Come discover the vibrant and growing art community at this port on the sea.
